20 Reasons eCYBERMISSION is Perfect for Your Classroom
We’re celebrating our 20th Anniversary here at eCYBERMISSION, and we want you to join in on the fun! One of the many things that makes eCYBERMISSION great is that it fits perfectly into the 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th grade science curriculum. Here are 20 reasons why you should incorporate eCYBERMISSION into your curriculum!
At eCYBERMISSION, our goal is to show your students that STEM can be exciting, accessible, and a path to a great career. That’s why we’ve built our competition to encourage students in all aspects of their STEM journey. Here are the ways that eCYBERMISSION helps students grow:
- Students experience what STEM is like by having them work with problems in their own community.
- Students develop important teamwork skills as they work together throughout the project.
- Students have the opportunity to use their imagination and experience how creativity is a vital component of STEM.
- Students can build problem-solving skills as the learn to identify and rank multiple solutions to a single problem using the engineering design process.
- Students build confidence coming up with ideas, completing tasks, and being empowered by their impact.
- Students become more aware and attentive of the world around them as they identify problems in their community to investigate or solve.
- Students have the opportunity to pursue a STEM topic that is interesting to them, helping them experience a side of STEM tailored to their interests.
- Students are able to work on something from start to finish and experience the satisfaction of completing a project.
Many students struggle seeing themselves as a scientist, engineer, or other STEM professional. At eCYBERMISSION, students are exposed to what a future in STEM looks like, with real-world examples, mentors, and the opportunity to take their project beyond the competition. Here’s how eCYBERMISSION helps shape students’ futures:
- Our CyberGuide mentors are real scientists and engineers who will connect with, mentor, and support students.
- CyberGuides share their education and work experiences, helping to demystify what a future in STEM looks like for students.
- Students have the opportunity to see the positive impact they can have in their community, encouraging altruism and the desire to improve the world around them.
- Students can win prizes in the form of savings bonds at the State, Regional, and National levels, which can be used to support their future education.
- eCYBERMISSION encourages students to take their projects beyond the competition. Many students have received patents and created businesses from their eCYBERMISSION projects.
- STEM-In-Action Grants are available for Regional Finalist teams who want to continue their projects after the competition and implement them in their community.
One of the most unique aspects of the eCYBERMISSION competition is its accessibility. eCYBERMISSION is more than just an after-school program or summer project. It is a valuable asset to classrooms like yours. Many eCYBERMISSION staff are former educators just like you, which means we know exactly what you need. Here’s what makes eCYBERMISSION perfect for your classroom curriculum:
- We provide a host of helpful learning materials, like full lesson plans, videos, and activity sheets.
- The eCYBERMISSION curriculum encompasses components of the Next Generation Science Standards, Common Core, and specific state science standards.
- Our Help Center includes pre-built rubrics to help with the grading process.
- Our online competition allows students to compete from anywhere, including Puerto Rico, American Samoa, and any other U.S. territories and DoD bases outside of the 50 states.
- The eCYBERMISSION competition schedule runs alongside the school year, making it simple to incorporate the program into your class curriculum.
- Mini-Grants are available to help cover the cost of materials and time spent on eCYBERMISSION projects, so all students can compete regardless of financial status.
