eCYBERMISSION holds its first annual student event at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point!

On July 17, Robin and I drove to West Point, N.Y. for eCYBERMISSION’s first annual student “thank you” event called West Point Day. Our trip had an interesting start – though we drove up separately, we both hit a lot of rain and ended up driving mostly in the dark. But we both finally got to the Thayer Hotel, located at the U.S. Military Academy (USMA) at West Point, safely!

After the rainy drive up to New York, we woke up Saturday morning to a beautiful, clear day! The picture below is the Thayer Hotel where Robin and I stayed.

We had 18 Team Advisors and parents, and 17 student participants and siblings join us for an exciting day at West Point. We started off the day with a meet and greet to get to know everyone and hear about the cool projects they submitted in the 2008-2009 eCYBERMISSION competition, or in prior years. We got to hear about Mission Folders having to do with the benefit of computers and the internet for the elderly to the benefit of providing Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to all sports fields, arenas and stadiums. We even had a previous national finalist attend and tell us about his project! And we didn’t let the parents get off too easy, they told us about their jobs or hobbies and siblings shared their hobbies as well. Below is a great picture of the whole group with Lt. Col. McNett!

After the meet and greet session, we got to listen to Lt. Col. Mike McNett give a great presentation on the endless possibilities that studying science, math and technology can offer. He showed us different types of robots and told us about the great history behind the USMA. After some questions and snacks, Lt. Col. McNett took us on a tour of the campus. It was such a beautiful day and such a beautiful campus, we couldn’t have asked for anything more! We got to see where the cadets live, the cafeteria, sports complex, football field and everything in between. If you haven’t had a chance to visit the USMA, I suggest you go! The buildings are made of beautiful stone, the campus sits on the water, its lovely! Below is a great picture of the beautiful building, sunny day and Lt. Col. McNett teaching us all about West Point!

We had such a wonderful day getting to know our eCYBERMISSION students, Team Advisors and their families and we cannot wait to host another event like this!

Do you have any suggestions for where eCYBERMISSION should host the next student thank you event?
